THOMAS J. HUDAK - TMC LAW is pleased to announce Tom has joined the Firm as an Associate Lawyer.


Prior to joining TMC LAW in December 2009, Tom practiced as a litigation lawyer with a law firm in downtown Toronto, and for Mac, Mac & Mac in New Glasgow. He has significant experience in administrative law, insurance law, personal injury, and general civil litigation. He has represented clients in matters before the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, Nova Scotia Provincial Court, all levels of Ontario Court, Financial Services Commission of Ontario, Canada Pension Review Tribunal, Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, Municipal Review Board, and various other tribunals and regulatory authorities.


Tom is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, Kings County Barristers' Society, Canadian Bar Association - Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Medical-Legal Society, and the Law Society of Upper Canada. He has volunteered for the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society Bar Admission Skills Course, mentored for the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law Advanced Legal Writing Program, is a past member of the Board of Directors of the New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee, and member of the Eastern Kings Chamber of Commerce.


Tom's experience, combined with his strong litigation skills make him a competent addition to the firm's Litigation Team, and a great addition to our Firm. We are pleased he has returned with his family to the Annapolis Valley.

 

JEFFREY D. SILVER - TMC LAW is pleased to announce Jeff has been admitted to the Partnership.


Jeff joined TMC LAW as an associate in October 2007 and effective January 2010 has joined the other principals in the firm to become a Partner. His practice focuses mainly in the areas of corporate/commercial and tax law. He also practices in the areas of real estate, wills, probate, and personal injury. Jeff has completed the two year In-Depth Tax Course offered by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, and continues with concentrated tax studies through that Institute.


Jeff is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, Kings County Barristers' Society, Canadian Bar Association - Nova Scotia, Rotary Club of New Minas Sunrise, and Eastern Kings Chamber of Commerce. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kings County Branch, and the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia (Halifax Branch).
Jeff's experience combined with his strong corporate and tax skills make him a great addition as a Partner in the firm.

TMC LAW Announcement:

ANITA HUDAK - TMC LAW is pleased to announce Anita has joined the Firm as an Associate Lawyer effective October 2009.

Anita was born and raised in St. John’s Newfoundland. She is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland, and the University of New Brunswick. She has been a practising member of the Nova Scotia Bar since 2006. Prior to joining TMC LAW Anita practised with Waterbury Newton in Kentville for three years with a focus in Family Law and Federal Criminal Prosecutions.

Anita is a member of the Kings County Barristers’ Society, Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, Canadian Bar Association, Eastern Kings Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Women and the Law. She was a former Law Day Chair for Cumberland County Barristers’ Association, currently a Facilitator for Family Court Parent Information Program, and Library Chair for Kings County Barristers’ Society.

Anita has a strong commitment to her community and currently sits on the Board of Directors and a Management Labour Negotiator for Chrysalis House, involved in a specialized Court project for Women’s Innovative Justice Initiative, and sits on the Research Ethics Board for Acadia University.

Anita’s enthusiasm for lawfulness and life, combined with her strong negotiation and litigation skills make her a competent defender for her clientele, and a great addition to our Firm.

Cohen Whaide Godwin-Johnson

Shelley Godwin of our Commercial Remedies department is pleased to welcome the arrival of her grandson Cohen Whaide Godwin-Johnson. Cohen was born June 11th, 2009 and weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces.

Shelley is pictured above with her daughter (and Cohen's mom) Alicia Godwin.

Participation in Rotary Club Fundraiser

Jeff Silver, a solicitor in our Corporate Department, working with other members of the Rotary Club in New Minas /Sunrise have carried out various fundraisers to raise funds to donate to the Club's well project. The Club's wells are in various areas of Sierra Leone through the assistance of World Hope Canada. World Hope Canada works with communities to reduce the incidence of preventable disease related to unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation. The construction of these wells is a major part of this initiative.

The picture above is from the village of Masongbo in Sierra Leone, the well for this village was funded by the New MinasRotary Club's 2008 donation.

The Rotary Club's latest fundraising efforts have generated funds to pay for the drilling of three more wells (approximately $11,400). The new wells will be constructed this year after the rainy season ends in the Fall.

Charles was born and raised in Digby County and a graduate of Acadia University and Dalhousie Law School. He completed his admission to the bar in June 2008. Charles received excellent professional experience during law school as a member of Pro Bono Students Canada and by being enrolled in the Dalhousie Legal Aid Service Clinic. At the clinic he co-ordinated the Tenants Right program and appeared at Residential Tenancy hearings and conducted various residential tenancy public information sessions. He also earned a certificate for successful completion of the Marine and Environmental Law Program.


Charles is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society, Canadian Bar Association and the Kings County Barristers Society. His preferred areas of practice are Corporate and Commercial Law, Wills and Estates, Real Estate, General Litigation, and Landlord/Tenant law. Charles is a member of the firm’s Corporate Department, and Commercial Remedies Team.

Terry was born and raised in Kings County and a graduate of Acadia University and Dalhousie Law School. Prior to joining TMC LAW in November 2008, Terry practised in Halifax with Scaravelli & Associates for 10 years. His practise focused on general litigation and personal injury litigation. Terry has represented clients at all levels of Courts in Nova Scotia. He has also represented clients before various administrative boards and tribunals.


Terry is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, Kings County Barristers’ Society, Canadian Bar Association - Nova Scotia, Eastern Kings Chamber of Commerce and Risk Management Association (RMA). He is also the past President and former Board Member of Bide Awhile Animal Shelter Society. His preferred areas of practice are Mortgage Enforcement and Realization, Insurance Litigation, and Personal Injury Litigation. Terry is a member of the firm’s Commercial Remedies Team, the General Litigation Practice Group, and the Personal Injury Practice Group.

Effective January 2009 the Partners elected Jim Dewar as the new Managing Partner to lead the Firm in the implementation and successful achievement of its strategic vision. After practicing with smaller firms in Wolfville from 1977, Jim joined the firm in 1986.


In addition to his new role as Managing Partner, Jim carries on a busy general practice with preferred areas in Elder Law, Mediation, Municipal Law, Wills and Estates, Estate Planning, and
Trusts. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1995. His extensive mediation training, which began in 1990, includes courses at Harvard Law School. He achieved Chartered Mediator status with ADR Institute of Canada in 2001. Jim has served as Municipal Solicitor for Town of Wolfville since 1990 and for Municipality of the District of Digby since 1999. He served as a Small Claims Court Adjudicator from 1994 to 1999. From 1999 to 2004 Jim served as Chair of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission. Jim is a member of the firm’s Wills Team and the Estates Team.
